The Thames Valley centre, on the M4 corridor
William House is on the Heron Industrial Estate at Spencers Wood, just south of Reading and a few minutes from junction 11 of the M4. From there this centre works the M4 corridor in both directions and runs down towards the South Coast.
It is a mixed patch: business parks and light industry around Reading and Bracknell, distribution along the motorway, and older warehousing out towards Newbury and Swindon. What ties it together is that most of these customers have a small number of machines and no maintenance staff of their own, so the relationship with the engineer matters more than the badge on the truck.
That is the way this centre has always worked: local service backed by a national company, from a team that takes the trouble to know its customers.

The advice around the machine
Most of what goes wrong with a small fleet is not the truck. It is a traction battery that has been charged badly for two years, tyres left past the point where they damage the floor, racking that has been clipped once too often, or a thorough examination that has quietly fallen due.
This centre gives advice on all of it: batteries and chargers, tyres, racking, and what LOLER and PUWER actually require of you. It costs nothing to ask and it is usually cheaper than the repair.

Reliable service is what brings new business in, but it is mostly what keeps existing customers, and this centre is run on that basis. The same engineers come back to the same sites, which means less time spent explaining the building and more spent fixing the machine.
