Acclaim Handling Ltd sells, hires, leases, services and maintains forklift trucks and materials handling equipment, from counterbalance trucks to access platforms and warehouse equipment, and trains the people who drive them. David Woods started the company from his home in Bishops Stortford in 1982. He took the name from the level of service he meant to give: good enough to be acclaimed. It also put the business near the front of the alphabetical Yellow Pages. ‘Success built on quality service’ is still how we work, and it is why so many customers come back to us. Whether a customer needs a single forklift truck or a fully managed materials handling operation, the aim David set has not changed: exactly what the job requires, at the best price possible.

In 1982 Acclaim became the first UK dealer for STILL, and it is an exclusive STILL dealer today. The first depot opened in Barking in 1984 and the Purfleet head office was built in 1985. Acquisitions brought Spalding, Norwich, Rugby and Kent into the business, followed by Liverpool and Portsmouth, making eight regional service centres and two accredited driver training centres. While a new headquarters is built on the Purfleet site, the head office team works from Salamons Way, Rainham. Our training department has 5 RTITB accredited trainers running courses across the country, such as Reach Truck, Pallet Stacker & Manual Handling, for customers throughout the UK and Ireland. His standard of service, quality and value still guides everything we do.
