Specifying the machine

Capacity is the obvious figure, but on this kind of equipment the route matters as much as the load. Gradients, floor surface, door widths, turning circles and how far the machine travels in a shift all feed into the specification, and they decide battery size as much as the weight being moved. Tell us the route and the duty cycle and we will size it properly.

Tow tractors and tugger trains earn their keep on repeatable internal runs, so uptime is the whole argument: a machine waiting on a callout is a production line waiting with it.

Moving loads along, not lifting them

Forklifts exist to lift. The machines here exist to move things along, and that is a different problem. Where a site spends its day carrying loads from one end of a building to the other, a counterbalance truck is usually the wrong tool: slower over distance, one pallet at a time, and an expensive machine doing haulage.

Tow tractors and tugger trains

A tow tractor pulls; a tugger train pulls several linked trolleys behind one driver. On a long internal route that changes the arithmetic completely, because one trip carries what would otherwise take several forklift journeys. They suit scheduled runs: line feed in manufacturing, replenishment between a warehouse and a production area, or moving goods between buildings on one site. Answer the total towed load, the route, the gradients and how tight the turns are before anything else.

Platform trucks

Platform trucks carry the load on a deck rather than on forks, which suits awkward, non-palletised or oversized items that will not sit safely on a pair of tines. They also suit sites where loads need moving by someone who is not a trained forklift operator, though the site still needs to satisfy itself that whoever uses one is competent.

New, used, hire and finance

Buy new, buy used off our own fleet, or take it on hire if the run is seasonal. Finance is available through lease purchase, contract hire or operating lease, and as plant and machinery the purchase may attract capital allowances: see our guide to tax relief and capital allowances. Part exchange is open on any make and model, working or not. All prices are ex VAT.

Servicing, parts and coverage

Servicing and repairs start from £90 ex VAT, with a 24/7 emergency callout line outside Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm. We run fleet management for mixed sites and deliver nationwide from Purfleet, Kent, Reading, Portsmouth, Rugby, Norwich, Spalding and Liverpool.
