Finding the right materials handling equipment
The search above covers our whole range, which runs from a pallet truck to a 30,000 kg multi-directional forklift. If you already know the specification you need, filter on it and go straight to the machines. If you are still working out what the job needs, the notes below are the same questions our team would ask you on the phone.
What you can search here
The four tabs match the four families we supply:
- Forklifts and materials handling, covering diesel, electric and LP gas counterbalance trucks, reach trucks, order pickers and very narrow aisle equipment, powered pallet trucks, stackers and attachments.
- Industrial cleaning and sweeping machinery, including scrubber driers, sweepers, pressure washers, steam cleaners and industrial vacuums.
- Platform trucks and tractors, for moving loads along rather than lifting them, including tow tractors and tugger trains.
- Access equipment, covering scissor lifts, boom lifts and mast lifts.
The numbers that decide it
For anything that lifts, three figures settle most of the specification: capacity, lift height and closed height. Closed height is the one that catches people out, because it decides whether the mast clears a doorway or fits inside a container, and it is a different question from how high the truck will lift.
Aisle width then decides the type rather than the size. A counterbalance truck needs room to turn, where a reach truck, an articulated truck or a very narrow aisle machine will work in a fraction of the space. If you are tight on aisle width, filter on that before anything else, because it rules whole families in or out.
Choosing a power source
Diesel still suits heavy outdoor work and rough ground. LP gas gives a balance of power and flexibility. Electric suits indoor work and anywhere noise or emissions are a problem. Lithium-ion is worth looking at for multi-shift operations, because it charges opportunistically during breaks, so there is no spare battery, no changing area and none of the handling gear that goes with them. If one machine has to cover two or three shifts, that is usually the deciding factor.
New, used or hire
Most of what you can filter here is available three ways. New equipment is built to your specification, and there is new stock ready to go where the specification already fits, with delivery from 2 weeks. Used machines come mainly off our own hire fleet and are maintained by our own engineers, which is a different proposition from a truck that has been traded in, auctioned or imported with a service history that is somebody else’s word. Every used machine leaves with a current thorough examination certificate. If the work is a one-off or seasonal, hire is usually the cheaper answer.
What comes with the machine
We are CFTS accredited, so one thorough examination covers both LOLER and PUWER and you get a single report rather than two. Thorough examinations start from £135 ex VAT and servicing and repairs from £90 ex VAT. We stock parts for STILL, Hyundai, Lonking, Flexi, Aisle Master and Combilift, run fleet management for anyone with mixed kit across several sites, and operate a callout line for breakdowns. Every depot also runs plant training and forklift certification.
Paying for it
Buy outright or finance through lease purchase, contract hire or operating lease via a third-party funder. Part exchange is open on any make and model, working or not, including redundant warehouse equipment that is only taking up floor space. We assess it on age, condition and specification and put the value against what you are buying. All our prices are ex VAT.
Where we deliver
We deliver nationwide from our depots at Purfleet, Kent, Reading, Portsmouth, Rugby, Norwich, Spalding and Liverpool. Transport is charged separately and depends on where you are. Our team is on hand Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm, and the emergency callout line runs 24/7 if a machine goes down outside those hours.
Not sure what to filter on? Tell us the heaviest load, the highest beam and the narrowest aisle, and we will specify the machine for you. Call 01708 861 414, send us an enquiry, or browse the full product range.
