Instructor Training courses we run

3 instructor courses: the full 10 day qualification, re-certification for existing instructors, and a conversion route onto RTITB registration.

Train the people who train your operators

Our Forklift Training Department is a dedicated, professional team that has trained over 700 RTITB registered instructors, alongside many thousands of lift truck operators. Instructor courses run at our accredited training centres in Purfleet in Essex, Chatham in Kent and Cosham in Portsmouth.

All of our courses are RTITB registered and approved by the joint committee of industry training boards, and are recognised by the HSE, the HSA and HSENI. That means they comply fully, for both the theoretical and the practical elements, with the Health and Safety Executive approved code of practice.

Re-Certification

For currently qualified and recently expired RTITB lift truck instructors who need to refresh their qualification and renew their registration.

Conversion

An entry route to RTITB registration for experienced instructors already qualified through another accrediting body or a recognised teaching qualification.

About our instructor training

Quality Operator forklift truck instructor Training is critical to ensure your working environment is safe and that your machinery operates efficiently. Acclaim Handling provides training at all skill levels with full certification. Forklift Truck Training can take place at our Accredited Training Centres in Purfleet, Essex, Chatham, Kent, or Cosham, Portsmouth.

Who instructor training is for

The conversion route in particular is built for instructors who already hold a qualification elsewhere. It is an entry route to RTITB registration for anyone currently registered, or expired by no more than 12 months, through:

  • AITT, ITSSAR or NPORS
  • RTITB, as an LGV or ICI instructor
  • Military or Fire Service, with a current and appropriate materials handling instructor qualification
  • IPAF, LANTRA, CITB / Construction Skills, ALLMI, LEEA or PASMA
  • ROSPA international diploma in advanced training, or international master instructor
  • PTLLS, CTLLS, DTLLS or the Award in Education and Training

Entry requirements

The 10 day instructor course. Candidates must provide documentary evidence of having successfully completed a Basic Operating Skills course for the machine type (Counterbalance) within the 12 months before the course starts. There is no requirement for that to have been an RTITB accredited operator training course. If you hold other evidence, contact the Exam Team before the course begins, because not doing so may make a candidate ineligible for examination.

Experience. We strongly recommend candidates can evidence a minimum of six months of industrial experience operating lift trucks. Accredited organisations should also consider a candidate’s literacy and numeracy before accepting them onto an instructor course.

The conversion course. All candidates must also hold a certificate of basic operating skills.

If you are a beginner and want to bring your operating skills up to the level needed to pass one of our instructor courses, get in touch and we will help you get there.

Instructor Training questions

What do I need before joining the 10 day instructor course?

Documentary evidence of a successfully completed Basic Operating Skills course for the Counterbalance machine type, taken within the 12 months before the course start date. It does not need to have been an RTITB accredited operator course. If you hold different evidence, contact the Exam Team before the course starts, because otherwise you may be ineligible for examination.

How much operating experience do I need?

We strongly recommend a minimum of six months of industrial experience operating lift trucks. Accredited organisations should also consider a candidate’s literacy and numeracy levels before accepting them onto the course.

My instructor registration has lapsed. Can I renew it?

Yes. The re-certification course is for currently qualified and recently expired RTITB lift truck instructors who need to refresh their qualification and renew their registration. There is a version that includes remedial training time, and a version for very experienced, highly competent instructors that does not.

I am registered with another body. Do I have to start again?

No. The conversion course is an entry route to RTITB registration for instructors already registered, or expired by up to 12 months, with bodies including AITT, ITSSAR, NPORS, IPAF, LANTRA, CITB, ALLMI, LEEA and PASMA, as well as RTITB LGV and ICI instructors, military and fire service instructors, and holders of qualifications such as PTLLS, CTLLS, DTLLS or the Award in Education and Training.

I am a beginner. Can I still become an instructor?

Get in touch. If you need to refresh your operating skills up to the level required to pass one of our instructor courses, we will tell you what that takes and help you get there.

Where does the training take place?

You have two options. Training runs at our accredited training centres in Purfleet in Essex, Chatham in Kent and Cosham in Portsmouth, or we come to your premises anywhere in the UK.

Is the certification recognised?

Yes. We are an RTITB accredited training provider and our courses end in full, nationally recognised certification, so you have documented evidence of training and assessment for your own records.
