Forklift PUWER – I need one?

Are you confident that your equipment is being correctly inspected to meet with the forklift PUWER and LOLER regulations?

A number of inspectors only check the forks, chains, and lifting sections when thoroughly examining  a forklift truck to ensure it complies to LOLER regulations. However they fail to inspect other crucial safety items such as brakes and steering which is a requirement under the forklift PUWER regulations.

Forklift PUWER Video from CFTS

PUWER (Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998) contains specific duties regarding mobile work equipment, for example forklift trucks. The Health & Safety Executive states “You should ensure that where mobile work equipment (such as forklift trucks) is used for carrying people, it is suitable for this purpose. Measures should be taken to reduce the risks (e.g. from it rolling over) to the safety of the people being carried, the operator and anyone else”If you are an employer or self-employed person and you provide equipment for use at work, or if you have control of the use of equipment, then forklift PUWER regulations will apply to you.Acclaim Handling Ltd is accredited to CFTS (Consolidated Forklift Truck Services) which means that our engineers have a minimum 5 years’ experience in the industry and are trained to inspect all safety items of the forklift truck meeting the requirements of both LOLER and forklift PUWER. If you are unsure whether you are indeed covered by this legislation then look for the distinctive CFTS mark: it’s your guarantee that a Thorough Examination is full and valid under law, and will be carried out by a fully trained engineer in accordance with strict quality procedures.
