Diesel, LP gas, electric or lithium-ion

Diesel still suits heavy outdoor work and rough ground. LP gas gives you a balance of power and flexibility and can be run indoors with adequate ventilation. Electric suits indoor work and anywhere noise or emissions are a problem. Lithium-ion is worth looking at for multi-shift operations because it charges opportunistically during breaks, so there is no spare battery, no changing area and none of the handling gear that goes with them. If you are running two or three shifts off a single machine, that is usually the deciding factor.

New, used or hire

Buy new and specify the truck to the job, take a new machine from stock with delivery from 2 weeks, or buy used from our own ex-hire fleet. If the work is short-term or seasonal, forklift hire is usually the cheaper answer. Every used truck leaves with a current thorough examination certificate.

Finance and tax relief

Most customers do not pay for a forklift outright. Lease purchase, contract hire and operating lease are all available through a third-party funder, and a forklift is plant and machinery, so the purchase may attract capital allowances. Servicing, parts and thorough examination

We are CFTS accredited, so one thorough examination covers both LOLER and PUWER and you get a single report rather than two. Examinations start from £135 ex VAT and servicing and repairs from £90 ex VAT. We stock parts for STILL, Hyundai, Lonking, Flexi, Aisle Master and Combilift, and run fleet management for anyone with mixed kit across several sites.

Which forklift do you actually need

Capacity, lift height and closed height settle most of it, and closed height is the one that catches people out because it decides whether the mast clears a doorway or fits in a container. Aisle width then decides the type: a counterbalance needs room to turn, where a reach truck, an articulated truck or very narrow aisle equipment will work in a fraction of the space. On power, diesel suits heavy outdoor work, LP gas balances power and flexibility, and electric suits indoor work, with lithium-ion worth looking at for multi-shift operations.

We deliver nationwide from Purfleet, Kent, Reading, Portsmouth, Rugby, Norwich, Spalding and Liverpool. Our team is on hand Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm, and the emergency callout line runs 24/7. Every depot also runs plant training and forklift certification. Accreditations: ISO 9001, ISO 45001, UKMHA, SafeContractor, RTITB, JOSCAR and Cyber Essentials.
