Hire for Bristol, from our West Service Centre

Forklift truck hire starts from £85 a week and covers the range a Bristol site is likely to need: diesel, LPG and electric counterbalance trucks for yards and sheds, reach trucks and articulated trucks for racking, pallet trucks and stackers for goods-in, and access platforms and cleaning machines as well. Give the West Service Centre on 0118 988 8878 the load, the height, the ground and your dates, Monday to Friday from 8am to 5pm. Hires booked a few days ahead are the easiest to plan, so ring as soon as the dates are known.

Bristol is served from William House on the Heron Industrial Estate, Spencers Wood, south of Reading. The city sits at the western end of the centre's M4 run, about 80 miles by road: west from junction 11 to junction 19, then in on the M32. Machines for Bristol and Avon make that journey on our own transport, and each delivery and its collection are booked to dates agreed with you.

Our engineers for Bristol are field based and work from stocked vans, so most servicing, examinations and repairs are finished on your own floor in one visit. The emergency breakdown callout line runs 24/7, and company-wide, 92 in every 100 callouts are fixed on the first visit.

The right truck for Bristol sites

Bristol work splits between the docks, the distribution sheds on the M5 and M4, and the trade and manufacturing sites closer in. Dockside and open-yard handling at Avonmouth and Royal Portbury is diesel work: diesel counterbalance trucks on pneumatic tyres, stepping up to heavy-duty forklifts when the loads are steel, timber or other heavy unit loads. Where a truck loads lorries outside and then stacks indoors, LPG trucks are the usual answer.

The big sheds at Severnside and along the M5 run racking to height, which is the job of reach trucks, with Flexi articulated trucks where aisles have been narrowed to fit more pallets in. Closer in, at St Philips Marsh and the south Bristol trading estates, electric counterbalance trucks and powered pallet trucks do the indoor work in workshops, stores and trade counters.

Access platforms and industrial cleaning machines can travel on the same lorry as the forklift, which makes good sense on a run down the M4. Tell us the heaviest load and its size, the lift height and whether the ground is concrete, tarmac or hardcore, and the quote will name the machine type that suits.

Bristol's docks, sheds and trading estates

Avonmouth and Severnside, off the M5 and the M49, are the city's main concentration of warehousing, with the port alongside and Royal Portbury Dock across the Avon. Here the work is pallets at height in the sheds, and heavy, awkward loads on the quays and in the yards.

On the north fringe, Aztec West at Almondsbury, Filton and Patchway mix offices, engineering and light industry, close to where the M4 and M5 meet. To the east, Emersons Green has a science park and business units, and Yate carries older manufacturing and storage sites further out along the A432.

St Philips Marsh, behind Temple Meads, is trade counters, workshops and builders' merchants, and the trading estates at Brislington and Ashton Vale fill the same role on the south side. Portishead and Clevedon down the M5, and Bath to the east, are covered by the same team as the city itself.

Looking after a Bristol hire

Every Bristol hire is serviced and inspected by our own engineers, who also carry out forklift servicing and repairs in Bristol on trucks customers own. We book the LOLER thorough examination too: at least every twelve months for a truck lifting loads, and every six where it lifts people. The hire fleet is CFTS accredited.

A service and a thorough examination can be done on the same visit, which takes the machine off the job once and brings the service record and the CFTS report together. The parts store at Spencers Wood supplies traction batteries and chargers, tyres and attachments, with advice on getting more life out of the ones you have.

We run operator training at our centres and on customers' sites, with novice, refresher and conversion courses on the trucks your people use: see forklift training in Bristol. It can be added to the hire quote so the dates line up.

Hire terms and prices

Hire runs from a single day through to long-term contract hire, from £85 a week. The rate moves with the machine, its lifting capacity and lift height, any attachments, and how long you keep it: longer hires cost less per week. Short-term hire covers a peak, a project or a truck off the road, and emergency hire is there for the day something has gone wrong.

Regular customers can put the machine, its servicing and its statutory inspections together as a contract, in one monthly payment with cover if the truck is off the road. Fleet management extends that across several sites.

If hire stops making sense, we sell new and used machines and take part exchange on your old truck, working or not. All prices are ex VAT.

Several machines on one delivery cost less to move than several separate journeys. If a Bristol job needs a forklift, a scissor lift and a scrubber dryer, book them together and they come down the M4 on the same lorry.

Hiring rather than buying keeps capital free for a Bristol business, because the weekly rate includes servicing and breakdown repairs by our engineers and machines can be added or sent back as the work changes, as our guide to hiring or buying a forklift explains.

Your West service centre

Spencers Wood is one of Acclaim's eight regional service centres, working the M4 corridor in both directions from junction 11, and Bristol and Avon are part of its patch. The company dates back to 1982 and has stayed independent, which keeps every recommendation tied to the work in front of it. We are an exclusive dealer for STILL, Hyundai and Lonking, and we also supply Flexi articulated trucks, Genie access equipment and Kärcher cleaning machinery.

Buying, hiring and servicing are handled by one team, so a Bristol business can price a new or used truck, a hire and a service plan together. Across the company we look after 3,500 machines, and the same organisation stands behind a Bristol site running a single truck.

  • Independent since 1982
  • 8 UK service centres
  • 3,500 machines maintained
  • 92% of callouts fixed first time
  • Engineers averaging 10 years with us

    FAQ's

Our West Service Centre at Spencers Wood, near Reading, about 80 miles away along the M4. Bristol and Avon are part of its patch, and calling 0118 988 8878 reaches the team that quotes, delivers and services your machine.

As much as you can give. Machines come down the M4 on our own transport, so a hire booked a few days ahead is the easiest to plan, and the collection date is set when the hire is booked. If a truck of your own has stopped, ring anyway: emergency hire is there for that day.

Yes. Open-yard and quayside handling usually needs diesel counterbalance trucks on pneumatic tyres, and heavy-duty machines for the heaviest unit loads. Give us the load weight and length and describe the surface, and we will quote the right type.

Yes, and it is worth doing. Several machines on one lorry cost less to move than several separate journeys, so book an access platform or a scrubber dryer alongside the forklift and they travel together.

Field engineers from Spencers Wood, working from stocked vans, so most servicing, examinations and repairs are finished on site in one visit. They book the LOLER thorough examination on hired trucks and can look after trucks you own too: see forklift servicing in Bristol.

Yes. We run operator training at our centres and on customers' sites, and the on-site option means Bristol operators learn in the aisles they work in. Course details are on forklift training in Bristol.
