Telescopic boom lift hire
Telescopic booms, up to 26.51 m working height
A cherry picker is a boom-type MEWP. A telescopic boom extends in a straight line: long outreach for its size, for building elevations, yards and open ground.

Articulated boom lift hire
Articulated booms
The boom is jointed, so the basket goes up, over and back in: over a production line, into steelwork, around pipework and ducting.

Working height and outreach
The number people forget
Working height is how high the operator can reach, normally the platform height plus about two metres. Outreach is how far sideways the basket goes from the base. Indoors on finished floors, electric is normally the requirement; on rough or soft ground, a diesel or rough terrain machine stays usable.
Tell us the height, how far the machine must stand back, and the ground, and we will put the right machine on the job rather than the biggest one.
Hire terms
From a few days to contract hire

Hire runs from a few days for a one-off job to long term contract hire where a machine is needed continuously. Delivery and collection are arranged with the hire, from whichever of our eight depots is nearest the site, and machines go out serviced, tested and with the paperwork in place.
Breakdown cover during the hire is by our own engineers rather than a subcontractor, the same arrangement that covers our forklift fleet.
- A MEWP lifts people, so LOLER requires a thorough examination every six months, not twelve.
- Hire machines from us come with current examination.
- If you own a MEWP as well, we can examine it: thorough examinations. For servicing, see MEWP servicing.
Cherry picker or scissor lift?
Reach, or platform space
Scissor lift
A bigger platform that carries more, but only goes straight up.
- Work directly above a clear floor
- Room for two people and materials
- Usually cheaper
Cherry picker
Reach, and the ability to go over an obstruction, with a smaller basket.
- Getting above, around or into something
- Building elevations and steelwork
- Working over a production line
Our guide explains what a scissor lift is, the types and the heights they reach.
A cherry picker lifts a person. We run MEWP and cherry picker operator training at our own centres or on your site. If you are not sure which machine the job needs, describe it and we will tell you. We are an authorised Genie dealer.
