In our own workshops

Forklift Refurbishment

We refurbish used trucks in our own workshops: stripped down, the mechanical and hydraulic work done, mast and chains, tyres, seat and paint, then a thorough examination. On your own truck, or one of ours before you buy it.

The work

What a refurbishment covers

Forklift raised on a service jack inside a workshop

A refurbishment is not a service. A service follows the maintenance schedule. A refurbishment deals with the wear a truck has built up over its working life.

The truck is stripped down and inspected, and the worn and damaged parts are replaced throughout. We agree the scope with you before any work starts, so you know exactly what is being done.

On an older electric truck the battery is often what holds it back, so it is tested and regenerated or replaced as part of the work. See battery supply and regeneration.

  • Strip-down and inspection
  • Mechanical work: drive, brakes and steering
  • Hydraulic work: hoses, seals and cylinders
  • Mast, chains and carriage
  • Electrics, and the battery on electric trucks
  • Tyres and seat
  • Paint
  • A thorough examination on completion

Two ways in

Your own truck, or one of ours

Refurbishing your own truck

If a truck has a sound chassis and mast and still suits the work, refurbishing it is an alternative to replacing it. You keep a machine your operators know, and the wear is put right in one go.

  • We collect it with our own transport
  • Work done in our own workshops
  • Delivered back when it is finished

Forklift repairs

A used truck, refurbished before delivery

Most of our used machines are ex-hire units off our own fleet, maintained by our own engineers. If you want one brought back further than its pre-sale inspection takes it, tell us before you commit, so the work can be scheduled.

  • Agree the work before you buy
  • Inspected by our own engineers

Worth it?

Refurbish, repair or replace

Not every truck is worth refurbishing, and we will tell you when one is not.

WhenUsually the answer
One fault on a sound truck

A repair. See forklift repairs.

Sound chassis and mast, wear across many parts

A refurbishment.

Bent mast, damaged frame or badly repaired collision damage

Replacement, whatever the refurbishment would cost.

Repair costs above half the truck's market value, or the same fault again and again

Replacement is usually cheaper. We take part exchange against the old truck.

Step by step

How it works

  1. Assessment.

One of our engineers looks at the truck and its service history, and tells you whether it is worth refurbishing.

  2. Scope and quote.

We agree what is being done and quote it before any work starts.

  3. The workshop.

Our own transport collects the truck, and the work is done in our own workshops.

  4. Examination and return.

A thorough examination when the work is finished, then the truck comes back to you. Planned servicing afterwards keeps it that way.

Forklift Refurbishment: common questions

Yes. Refurbishing your own truck is an alternative to replacing it, provided the chassis and mast are sound. We collect it, do the work in our own workshops and bring it back.

A strip-down and inspection, mechanical and hydraulic work, the mast and chains, electrics, tyres, seat and paint, and a thorough examination on completion. We agree the scope with you first.

No. A truck with a bent mast, a damaged frame or badly repaired collision damage is not a good candidate. We tell you before any work starts.

Yes. The battery is checked as part of the work, and regenerated or replaced where it needs it.

Yes. Tell us what you want doing before you commit to the truck, so the work can be scheduled before delivery.

It depends on the truck and what it needs. We quote once we have seen it, before any work starts.
