Racking repairs

Pallet Racking Repairs

Damaged uprights, beams and bracing replaced with like-for-like components after an inspection, red items first. We repair racking whoever supplied it, and look at why the same bays keep getting hit.

Red and amber damage

What has to happen, and how quickly

A racking inspection grades every item of damage red, amber or green. The grade sets the timetable for the repair.

GradeWhat happens
RedSerious damage: the bay is not safe. Offload it and isolate it straight away, and keep it out of use until the damaged components are replaced.
AmberDamage that needs repair but not immediate offloading. Repair it within four weeks; if it is not repaired in that time it becomes red.
GreenWithin the limits of the standard. No repair: record it and check it again at the next inspection.

No report yet? Book a racking inspection to EN 15635 first, so every item is graded and located before anything is ordered.

What we repair

Uprights, beams, bracing and fixings

Uprights and frames

Bent, dented or twisted uprights are replaced with components that match the frame, so the bay keeps its load rating.

  • Dents, bends and twists beyond the limits of the standard
  • The bay offloaded before work starts
  • Frames set level and plumb again

Beams and connectors

Bent or damaged beams and connectors are replaced like for like, and every beam lock is refitted.

  • Damaged or deflected beams
  • Damaged connectors
  • Missing or damaged beam locks

Bracing, base plates and fixings

Damaged or missing bracing, base plates and floor anchors are replaced, and the frame is fixed back to the floor.

  • Horizontal and diagonal bracing
  • Base plates and floor anchors
  • Row spacers between back-to-back runs

Replacement components are specified to match your racking. Mixing makes is not recommended, so the new part matches the make and section already installed and the load notice still applies.

How a repair works

From damage schedule to a bay back in use

  1. Offload and isolate. Red bays are emptied and kept out of use straight away. Your person responsible for racking safety can do this the day the damage is found; it does not wait for the repair.
  2. Quote from the report. We price each item on the damage schedule, with the replacement components specified to match your racking. Send us your inspection report, or have us inspect first.
  3. Like-for-like parts. Uprights, beams, bracing and fixings matched to the make and section of the existing racking.
  4. Repair. Our team replaces the damaged components, refits beam locks and anchors, and sets the frame level and plumb.
  5. Back into use. Load notices are checked against how the bay is now configured, and the repaired items are recorded so the next inspection can close them off.

Around a live operation

Repairs without shutting the warehouse

Most repairs are a bay or two at a time. The damaged bay is offloaded and fenced off, the rest of the aisle keeps working, and the work can be phased or done out of hours so the warehouse keeps running.

Where a lot of damage sits in one area, we plan the repairs in order of grade, red first and then amber, so the bays that are out of use come back first.

After the repair

Stopping the same bay being hit again

Forklift operating in a large warehouse aisle

A new upright in the same spot, hit by the same truck on the same turn, will be damaged again. With every repair we look at why it happened: a missing guard, an aisle too tight for the truck, or a junction where trucks cut the corner.

We fit racking protection at the uprights and aisle ends that keep getting hit. Because we supply and service the trucks as well, we can also look at the truck, the aisle, and telematics that records each impact against the shift it happened on.

Changing the layout at the same time? See racking installation: we extend, reconfigure and move racking with the load ratings rechecked.

Racking Repairs: common questions

A damaged upright is replaced, not straightened, with a component that matches the frame so the bay keeps its load rating. The bay is offloaded before the work starts.

Yes. We repair racking whoever supplied it, with replacement components matched to the make and section already installed.

Straight away. A red bay is offloaded and isolated as soon as the damage is found and stays out of use until it is repaired. Amber damage should be repaired within four weeks, or it becomes red.

It helps. An inspection to EN 15635 grades and locates every item, so the right components are ordered. If you already have a report, send it to us and we will quote from it.

Yes. Damaged bays are offloaded and fenced off, and the work is phased or carried out out of hours so the rest of the warehouse keeps running.

Mixing makes is not recommended. Replacement components should match the existing racking, so the load rating on the notice still applies.

It depends on how many items need replacing, the racking make and section, the height and the access. We price each item from the damage schedule rather than from a list.
