Hire for Luton, from our head office depot

From £85 a week, Luton sites can hire reach trucks, articulated trucks and stackers for racked warehouses, counterbalance forklifts on electric, LPG or diesel, powered pallet trucks, and access platforms and cleaning machines. One call to 01708 861 414 reaches the people who will deliver the machine, service it and inspect it, Monday to Friday from 8am to 5pm. If a truck stops out of hours, our breakdown callout line runs 24/7.

Luton is looked after from our Head Office South East at Units 20-22 Salamons Way, Rainham, which is both the company's head office and a working service centre. The run to Luton is about 55 miles, out along the A13 to the M25, round the north of London and up the M1 to junctions 10 and 11. Every delivery goes on our own transport, with the date for collecting the machine agreed at the outset.

The head office team looks after businesses with a single machine in a start-up unit and fleets of more than a hundred across several sites. A Luton business fits anywhere on that scale, from one pallet truck for a new unit to trucks for a site by the airport and another at Dunstable.

Matching the truck to Luton work

Luton's working sites are a mix of airport-side logistics, distribution sheds by the M1, and engineering and trade premises across the town. Electric counterbalance trucks suit indoor work on finished floors, including stores where exhaust fumes are not acceptable. Diesel counterbalance trucks on pneumatic tyres work the yards, merchants and outdoor storage, and LPG trucks handle jobs that run inside and out.

The distribution buildings around junctions 10 and 11a of the M1 work to height in racked aisles, so reach trucks do most of the lifting, and a Flexi articulated truck handles aisles too narrow for a counterbalance to turn. Powered pallet trucks and pallet stackers cover goods-in, trailer loading and the smaller units on the town's older estates.

Attachments such as rotators, side shifts and fork extensions can be fitted for the hire, and access platforms and industrial cleaning machines can go on the same order. Give the head office team the weight of the heaviest load, how high it goes and how narrow the aisles are, and we will name the machine type that fits.

Luton's estates, from the airport to the M1

London Luton Airport and Airport Way, on the east side of town, bring freight, maintenance and supply sites together, and Capability Green beside the A1081 adds offices and distribution. Butterfield, to the north-east off the A505 towards Hitchin, is a business park of newer light-industrial units.

On the north-west side, Sundon Park and the units near junction 11 of the M1 handle storage and trade. Dunstable's Woodside Industrial Estate and the newer distribution land at Houghton Regis, close to junction 11a, carry the heavier warehousing.

Further out, the same team reaches the Maylands area of Hemel Hempstead at junction 8, and Hitchin and Stevenage on the A1(M). A business with sites on both sides of the M1 deals with one number and one set of engineers.

Servicing and support on a Luton hire

Hire machines going to Luton are serviced by the same mobile engineers who carry out forklift servicing and repairs in Luton, so a truck on a long hire stays on schedule without you booking it. We book the LOLER thorough examination too: at least every twelve months for a truck lifting loads, and every six where it lifts people. The hire fleet is CFTS accredited.

Cover is planned in advance, and the engineers who service a machine through the year are the same ones who come out when it stops. Traction batteries and chargers, tyres and attachments come from our parts store, supplied and fitted.

Novice, refresher and conversion courses are part of what we offer: we run operator training at our centres and on customers' sites, and the details are on our forklift training pages. Owned trucks are covered as well, through our forklift servicing in Luton.

Hire terms and prices

Hire runs from a single day through to long-term contract hire, from £85 a week. The rate moves with the machine, its lifting capacity and lift height, any attachments, and how long you keep it: longer hires cost less per week. Short-term hire covers a peak, a project or a truck off the road, and emergency hire is there for the day something has gone wrong.

Regular customers can put the machine, its servicing and its statutory inspections together as a contract, in one monthly payment with cover if the truck is off the road. Fleet management extends that across several sites.

If hire stops making sense, we sell new and used machines and take part exchange on your old truck, working or not. All prices are ex VAT.

Distribution sites around the M1 junctions often take on extra trucks for a new contract or a rise in volume, and hand them back when it settles. Short-term hire is built for that window, while the trucks on contract carry on alongside.

Your head office service centre

Rainham is home to Acclaim's head office and its South East service centre, one of eight regional centres across the UK. We have supplied and maintained handling equipment since 1982 and have stayed independent throughout, which leaves us free to recommend whichever machine suits the work. We are an exclusive dealer for STILL, Hyundai and Lonking, and we also supply Flexi articulated trucks, Genie access equipment and Kärcher cleaning machinery.

Contract hire and fleet management can bring the machines, the servicing, the LOLER thorough examinations and replacement cover together in one agreement, with a single point of contact. That suits a Luton operator running several sites as well as one taking on its first truck.

  • Independent since 1982
  • 8 UK service centres
  • 3,500 machines maintained
  • 92% of callouts fixed first time
  • Engineers averaging 10 years with us
