Hiring a forklift in Derby through our Rugby depot

With forklift truck hire from £85 a week, a Derby business can take diesel, LPG or electric counterbalance forklifts, reach trucks and Flexi articulated trucks for racking, and powered pallet trucks and stackers for goods-in, as well as access platforms and cleaning machines. The Rugby team takes calls on 01788 560 534 from 8am to 5pm on weekdays, and the 24/7 emergency breakdown callout line covers nights and weekends.

Derby is about 50 miles from Rugby by road: north up the M1 to junction 24, west along the A50 and into the city on the A6. Each machine travels on our own transport, with collection pencilled in during the call that books the delivery.

The Rugby centre's patch runs across Warwickshire, Northamptonshire, Leicestershire and the West Midlands and out to Derby and Nottingham, so the city is part of the engineers' normal territory. Derbyshire beyond the city is covered by the same team.

The right forklift for Derby sites

Derby's work runs from heavy engineering and rail to the distribution parks along the A50 and around the M1. Heavy-duty forklifts and diesel counterbalance trucks on pneumatic tyres handle heavy fabrications and outdoor storage, and LPG trucks suit machines moving between yard and shop floor.

In the big sheds by the airport and junction 24, reach trucks lift to height in long racked aisles, and a Flexi articulated truck can add racking runs to a building by working aisles around half as wide. Electric counterbalance trucks, powered pallet trucks and stackers look after clean production areas and stores.

Rail and aerospace supply work often means long, awkward loads, so tell us the length as well as the weight, along with the lift height and the ground. Access platforms and industrial cleaning machines can join the same hire, and the quote names the type of machine and any attachment it needs.

Derby's industrial areas, from Pride Park to Sinfin

Pride Park, east of the station by the A52, mixes offices and business units with trade counters, and Derby Commercial Park and the Raynesway estates further east carry heavier engineering and storage. Spondon, on the city's eastern edge, has long been home to chemical and process industry.

To the south, Sinfin and Infinity Park hold engineering and aerospace supply sites, and Osmaston and Litchurch carry the city's rail engineering tradition close to the centre. The A38 and the A50 tie them to the wider county.

Along the A50, Dove Valley Park at Foston holds large warehouses, and East Midlands Gateway, by the airport and junction 24 of the M1, is a big logistics park with its own rail freight terminal. Belper, Ripley and Ilkeston are on the same Rugby runs as the city.

Who looks after a Derby hire

A Derby hire is serviced by the Rugby engineers who also carry out forklift servicing and repairs in Derby, and because they are field based, most visits finish on your floor without the truck leaving site. We book the LOLER thorough examination too: at least every twelve months for a truck lifting loads, and every six where it lifts people. The hire fleet is CFTS accredited.

Across Acclaim, 92 callouts in every 100 end with the fault put right at the first visit. When a traction battery, a charger or a set of tyres needs replacing, the Rugby parts store supplies and fits it.

Operator courses are optional and can be timed for the week the truck arrives. We run operator training at our centres and on customers' sites, as our forklift training pages explain.

Hire terms and prices

Hire runs from a single day through to long-term contract hire, from £85 a week. The rate moves with the machine, its lifting capacity and lift height, any attachments, and how long you keep it: longer hires cost less per week. Short-term hire covers a peak, a project or a truck off the road, and emergency hire is there for the day something has gone wrong.

Regular customers can put the machine, its servicing and its statutory inspections together as a contract, in one monthly payment with cover if the truck is off the road. Fleet management extends that across several sites.

If hire stops making sense, we sell new and used machines and take part exchange on your old truck, working or not. All prices are ex VAT.

Derby's engineering firms and distribution sites often need a truck to cover a shutdown, a stock-take or a new contract that starts before the permanent fleet is in place. Say when the work starts and stops, and the hire is booked to those dates.

Derby firms that would rather not tie up capital pay one weekly rate, with our engineers looking after servicing and breakdowns and trucks coming or going as orders change, and our forklift hire or buy comparison runs the numbers.

Your Midlands service centre at Rugby

Acclaim's Midlands Service Centre, one of the company's eight regional centres, is on Paynes Lane Industrial Estate in Rugby, where the M1, the M6 and the A14 meet within a few miles of each other. We have worked in handling equipment since 1982 without giving up our independence, so the truck we recommend for Derby is picked for the job. We are an exclusive dealer for STILL, Hyundai and Lonking, and we also supply Flexi articulated trucks, Genie access equipment and Kärcher cleaning machinery.

Around the trucks, the Rugby centre carries manual handling equipment, from hand pallet trucks and trolleys to powered stair climbers. With hire, servicing and sales in one team, a Derby site can run a hired truck alongside a new or used one it owns, with one set of engineers looking after both.
