Forklift Hire Manchester

Forklift hire in Manchester from £85 a week, from our Liverpool Service Centre at Prescot, about 30 miles west along the East Lancashire Road and the M62. Ring 0151 294 3369 and the Prescot team will put a price on the right machine.

Manchester forklift hire from our Prescot centre

Manchester businesses can hire electric, LPG and diesel counterbalance forklifts, reach trucks, order pickers, Flexi articulated trucks, powered pallet trucks and stackers from £85 a week, with access platforms and cleaning machines on the same order. Phone 0151 294 3369 between 8am and 5pm on weekdays and you are through to the Prescot team, and when a truck stops at night or over a weekend the emergency breakdown callout line answers 24/7. Explain what the truck has to lift and from which day, and a price for the right type follows.

Kitling Road is a few minutes from junction 2 of the M57, and the run to Manchester is about 30 miles: the East Lancashire Road to the M6, the M62 east and the M602 into Salford and the city. The depot runs its own vehicles, and the collection date is fixed in the same call as the delivery.

Greater Manchester is part of the Prescot centre's everyday patch, alongside Merseyside, Cheshire and Lancashire. Servicing rounds are planned by area, so the engineers working Manchester sites spend whole days in this part of the region and are near at hand when a truck needs attention.

Matching the forklift to Manchester sites

Trafford Park and the estates along the Ship Canal handle steel, timber, building materials and containers, much of it outdoors, which is work for diesel counterbalance trucks on pneumatic tyres. LPG trucks are the usual pick for sites that fill lorries outside and put the pallets away under cover. Manufacturing, food and printing on finished floors are usually done with electric counterbalance trucks.

The big distribution sheds around the M60, by the airport and out at Heywood work to height in racked aisles, where reach trucks and order pickers and very narrow aisle equipment do most of the lifting. Where a building needs more pallet spaces on the same floor, the Prescot team can check whether a Flexi articulated truck would work, as it runs in an aisle around half the width a counterbalance needs. Cash-and-carry and wholesale units around Cheetham Hill mostly need powered pallet trucks and stackers.

Heavier loads and long sections can go on heavy-duty forklifts, and side-shifts, fork extensions and other attachments are fitted for the hire. Access platforms and cleaning machines are delivered alongside if you add them to the booking. Send us the heaviest load, the top beam height and the width of the aisles, and the quote will follow.

Manchester's industrial areas, from Trafford Park to Heywood

Trafford Park, west of the city between the Manchester Ship Canal and the M60, packs manufacturing, food processing, storage and distribution into one large estate. Port Salford at Barton and the Carrington sites further along the canal add newer warehousing.

South of the city, Wythenshawe's Roundthorn Industrial Estate and Airport City by Manchester Airport mix logistics, catering supply and light industry. To the north and east, the wholesale trade of Cheetham Hill, Newton Heath and Central Park, and Openshaw and Gorton hold older industrial units close to the centre.

Out along the M62, Heywood Distribution Park by junction 19 and Kingsway Business Park at Rochdale are large distribution sites. Stockport, Bolton, Oldham, Wigan and the rest of Greater Manchester are worked by the same Prescot team on the same number.

Keeping Manchester hire trucks at work

A hired truck in Manchester is maintained by the engineers who carry out forklift servicing and repairs in Manchester, working from stocked vans so that most visits finish on your site. We book the LOLER thorough examination too: at least every twelve months for a truck lifting loads, and every six where it lifts people. The hire fleet is CFTS accredited.

When a truck needs new traction batteries, a charger or a set of tyres, Prescot holds them and fits them on site. Book the service and the thorough examination for the same day and a long-hire truck is stood down only once, with heavier repairs taken to the Prescot workshop and brought back on our own transport.

For firms that ask for it, we run operator training on customers' sites and at our RTITB accredited centres in Purfleet, Chatham and Portsmouth, and in Greater Manchester an instructor can bring the course to your premises: see forklift training in Manchester. People new to trucks, operators due a refresher and those moving to a different machine can all be catered for.

Hire terms and prices

Hire runs from a single day through to long-term contract hire, from £85 a week. The rate moves with the machine, its lifting capacity and lift height, any attachments, and how long you keep it: longer hires cost less per week. Short-term hire covers a peak, a project or a truck off the road, and emergency hire is there for the day something has gone wrong.

Regular customers can put the machine, its servicing and its statutory inspections together as a contract, in one monthly payment with cover if the truck is off the road. Fleet management extends that across several sites.

If hire stops making sense, we sell new and used machines and take part exchange on your old truck, working or not. All prices are ex VAT.

Manchester distribution sites often take extra trucks for the run-up to a retail peak, and production sites for a new contract or a stock build. Where several machines are needed, they can travel together from Prescot on one lorry, and the transport charge is shared between them.

Kitling Road, Prescot: your northern depot

The Liverpool Service Centre stands on Kitling Road, on the Knowsley Business Park side of Prescot, and is one of Acclaim's eight regional service centres, covering the north of England from Merseyside and Greater Manchester up into Scotland. We have been an independent handling company since 1982, which leaves us free to recommend whichever truck suits a Manchester site. We are an exclusive dealer for STILL, Hyundai and Lonking, and we also supply Flexi articulated trucks, Genie access equipment and Kärcher cleaning machinery.

Prescot's engineers work on all makes, including trucks we did not supply, and hire, sales, servicing and training sit with one team. Manchester customers often mix the two, running a hired machine through the busy months next to a new or used truck they own, all on the same service plan.

  • Independent since 1982
  • 8 UK service centres
  • 3,500 machines maintained
